Top 5 Weight Loss Tips

Although starting a diet can be a daunting prospect these five tips will help to keep you motivated and on track.

Track your meals

My first tip to anyone wanting to start a diet would be to track your calories. This may seem like hard work at first but after a week or two you will get into the habit of tracking and it will become a natural process (speaking from experience). My tracking experience has been made easy through using MyFitnessPal which is a free app and website that you can use to monitor your caloric intake.

Add exercise

This is another obvious tip but it is often completely ignored by those who wish to lose weight. Many individuals purely remove a lot of food from their diet and lose weight this way, however this is not the healthiest way as you'll constantly be starving and have LOADS of cravings. The second and more natural way to achieve weight loss would be to gradually reduce your caloric intake and gradually integrate cardiovascular work into your regime. This cardio session must be something you enjoy whether that's swimming, running, cycling or even rowing they will all help you to burn excess calories.

Stay hydrated

Drinking water throughout the day can also help to reduce hunger pains and keep you fuller for longer meaning that you may consume less throughout the day. Aim for 4-6 litres a day.

Get enough sleep

Research has shown that maintaining a good sleeping routine can reduce the likelihood of weight gain. This research was conducted by the University of Pennsylvania and it displayed that those that were deprived of sleep would gain weight over time whereas the well rested group would not.

Use chopsticks or a teaspoon

Although this may seem like a very odd suggestion at first, using smaller or more awkward utensils can actually be a very wise decision for anyone wanting to lose weight. These utensils requires a lot of attention and therefore time. This means that each meal will take longer to eat and may make you feel as if you've eaten more.
